PhilosophyAs a global community, we are continuing to outdo ourselves with technological advances. As an instructor of language, particularly that of one we are not currently immersed in, technology is a particularly useful tool. Videos, images, sound files, video conferencing, and recording systems are just a few examples of the tools that directly enhance language learning. Through the use of technology, we have the ability to broaden our capabilities as teachers and students. We can directly access the world at any moment.

I think it is imperative to incorporate technology into teaching; to fail to do so is to disregard a valid resource. That said, technology is a part of a larger piece of the learning experience. It should be used to enrich scholarship, not as a crutch to carry the teacher’s responsibility. I aim to thoughtfully use technology when it is advantageous to the curriculum and not abuse its ease of access.
I believe that my approach represents a clear pedagogical innovation with technology within and outside of the classroom. I use twitter in order to communicate/remind students of assignments, as well as provide them with supplementary material pertinent to the course and content of lectures. I also incorporate an online learning base, My Spanish Lab, into every lesson and believe that this material outside of the classroom only reinforces what the students learn while on campus. |
